In early December 2020, a new Rotaract Group was started by the Rotary Club of Leicester. Rotaract welcomes people between the ages of 18 and 30. This enthusiastic group get involved doing good things in the communities where they live; and have a huge amount of fun at the same time.

Currently, the group has seventeen members and are led by a 20-year-old Portuguese student at De Montfort University, who is studying International Relations and Politics. Right now, because of Covid restrictions, they meet regularly online – but are planning to meet face-to-face in the future.

Members started volunteering in September when they were invited by Rotary to get involved with the Vista Project, which tackles homelessness amongst young people. As well as collecting donations for this great cause, they organised a Christmas Hamper Campaign – giving these out to different charities; as well as delivering hot meals to hotels and hostels to people who really need them.

The Rotaract group are meeting in January, on Zoom, as they start to prepare for new projects; and they’re keen for new people to join them. When the university re-opens, they’ll be looking at a campaign where they can donate clothing and other items to charities, who will distribute them.
